Humility

I guess this life isn’t what we thought it would be

I thought I’d be president by now

Or at least something important

Not only that,

But all of my friends have gone missing

Where they went, I don’t know

I wasn’t paying attention

I lost track of them in my haste to get to the top

What a waste

I made them feel foolish

Just so I could feel special

I hope it’s not too late to patch things up

Tell them I’m sorry, and that I’ve reigned in my ego

I woke up from a dream about us as kids

I remember being so kind

And gentle when I spoke

I must have changed

When I saw that carrot on a stick in front of me

I’m not special

I’m not unique

I just want my friends

And to be gentle with how I speak

I’m glad I didn’t win

I’m happy ambition broke me

I have a couple calls to make

Did I just learn humility?
